How can one possibly describe in words a journey that's been almost entirely internal? How does one find the appropriate verbs and adjectives to describe the long nights (and sometimes days) spent exploring the darkest canyons of one's soul...picking away at the striated layers of accumulated fear hardened in the crevices...plunging (fearfully) into the blackest water of one's consciousness...returning again and again to nooks and crannies whose darkness sends shivers up one's spine? How can one politely say to someone that this is how one has "entertained" oneself for the past few years? Or, most truthfully, that this is how one has survived these last few years? One doesn't...one just does it.
